Rebuilding Our Community: Compassion, Commitment, and Competence
I believe in the future of this community, and this is why I have decided to seek election for City Council District 17 in the special election to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Councilwoman Maria Del Carmen Arroyo. The election will be held in mid-February 2016.
I offer you the leadership and vision to build on the work that is in progress. I serve as the President of the Home-Simpson Home Owners Association, Clergy Liaison for the 42nd Pct., advisor to the Board of the Greater Universal Community Development Corporation, president of the Yonkers-East Yonkers Rotary Club, former Board Chairman of the Community League of the Heights (CLOTH), former chairman of the Board of Volunteer NY, and recently served as a member of the planning committee for the Bronx YMCA Annual Bon Appetit fund raiser. I am an associate minister at both the Goodwill and The Greater Universal Baptist Churches in the Bronx, and am the founder and president of The JLR Company, providing financial training and loan consultations to churches and other religious institutions.
As your Councilmember, I will ensure that the departments of HPD, DOB, NYCHA and others engage economic and community development initiatives that result in benefits for our community; hold the NYC Department of Education accountable for preparing our children to successfully live, learn and work in an increasingly technological and global society; introduce measures to improve the quality of life for seniors and families; work to help single parents successfully raise their children, as well as grandparents who are raising their grandchildren; and work to reduce the health care disparities that plague the Bronx in higher rates than any other borough.
